Details about the medic killed in Kyiv
Smolyak was from Kahovka in the Kherson region. He arrived at the site of the shelling in the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv to save people but died as a result of a repeated strike while performing his professional duty.
For more than 25 years, Smolyak worked as a senior paramedic on an ambulance in Kahovka, during which time he saved many lives. After moving to Kyiv, the medic continued to help people, caring for their well-being despite his own danger.
“He was not only a devoted medic but also a loving husband, father, and grandfather. The Kahovka community extends its sincere condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Serhiy Smolyak. The time and place of the burial will be announced later,” the Kahovka city territorial community reported.
The night strike on Kyiv took the lives of four people, and the number of injured, including medics and emergency service employees, reached 25. Significant damage was inflicted on residential buildings, a kindergarten, and infrastructure in six districts of the capital. The area was also under fire, with nearly the entire territory affected; fires broke out in the Boryspil, Obukhiv, and Brovary districts. In the Brovary district, rescuers pulled a family with a small child from under the rubble.
This tragedy once again reminds us of the dangers faced by medical workers during combat operations. Serhiy Smolyak, devoted to his work, became a victim of the war while saving the lives of others. His sacrifice will not be forgotten, and the community will continue to honor his memory. It is important to remember those who go to the forefront every day in the struggle for life.
