Threat of Metapneumovirus Infection Pandemic: WHO Statement.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations of Hungary, Peter Szijjarto, reported a phone conversation with WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, during which they discussed the situation regarding the spread of metapneumovirus.
According to Szijjarto, the WHO currently sees no threat of a pandemic from this disease worldwide.
My friend Tedros reassured me regarding the frightening stories of recent days and weeks and confirmed that there is currently no threat of any emergency situation in global health, Szijjarto wrote on his Facebook page.
It was previously reported that metapneumovirus is not a new virus, having been discovered over 20 years ago. It circulates during the winter-spring period. This was stated by WHO spokeswoman Margaret Harris.
Moreover, the EU does not currently see a danger of the human metapneumovirus (hMPV) spreading on a pandemic scale, said European Commission official Eva Grncirova.
As a reminder, in Kyiv, doctors identified the first laboratory-confirmed case of metapneumovirus infection (HMPV).
