Who Was Mykola Bruiev?

According to Novyny.live: Mykola Bruiev, a former athlete who volunteered with the Azov Regiment, died after being tortured while held captive by Russian forces. He fought in the defense of Mariupol and never returned from captivity, where brutal abuse led to his death.

Bruiev had served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine since 2019. When Russia launched its full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, he had already completed his military service but chose to rejoin by enlisting with Azov to continue defending his country. He was among the Azovstal defenders captured between May 16 and 20, 2022, when Russian troops seized the city.

Tragically, his death from torture has been confirmed.

“The enemy is to blame, along with those who promised honorable captivity. Thank you for everything. A friend, coach, brother-in-arms, and example of courage—the Azovstal defender with the call sign 'Combat,'”
said one of Mykola's comrades. His loss has been deeply felt by everyone who knew and respected him.

The War's Grim Toll
