According to Espreso.tv: Speaking at the Black Sea Security Forum, Valerii Zaluzhny addressed the challenges stemming from Russian aggression and underscored the Black Sea region’s critical importance for Ukraine. He stated that, thanks to decisive actions by Ukrainian forces and the unprecedented use of new capabilities, Russia has lost its dominance in the Black Sea.
“The Azov-Black Sea region is undoubtedly key for Ukraine,” Zaluzhny remarked.
Ongoing Security Threats in the Black Sea
Zaluzhny’s remarks came against the backdrop of recent events that highlight the persistent threat of Russian aggression. On the night of May 18, Russian drones struck three civilian vessels sailing under the flags of Guinea-Bissau, Panama, and the Marshall Islands. These incidents show that security in the Black Sea remains a critically urgent issue.
Zaluzhny also urged NATO to invest in the military capabilities of its coastal member states and to develop a new security strategy for the Black Sea region.
