Public Readiness for National Defense

According to Espreso.tv: General Valerii Zaluzhnyi has highlighted the critical role of public willingness in defending the nation. During his address, he emphasized that the people's readiness to protect their homeland is of paramount importance. According to sociological surveys, 60% of Ukrainians are prepared to continue fighting for independence. This reflects a strong sense of patriotism and determination among Ukrainians as they confront the challenges facing their country.

The Situation in Russia

In contrast, Russia lacks independent sociological research, making it difficult to assess the true sentiments of its population. Since 2022, 259 books on the war with Ukraine have been published in Russia. However, 90% of these have print runs of fewer than 3,000 copies, suggesting limited public interest in the topic. Among the published works, the largest print run belongs to the poetry collection 'Voice of the Front,' with 20,000 copies. Other notable publications include:

  • a mercenary's memoirs with a print run of 18,000 copies
  • a book by Zakhar Prilepin with 12,000 copies

It is also worth noting that Valerii Zaluzhnyi's book 'My War' has sold over 50,000 copies, while the collection 'Hemingway Knows Nothing' has exceeded 40,000 copies. The poetry work 'Just Don't Write to Me About War' has a print run of over 30,000 copies. These figures indicate that Ukrainian war-related literature, much like the public's readiness to defend the country, enjoys significant demand among Ukrainians.

These facts underscore not only the patriotic spirit of Ukrainian society but also its cultural vibrancy amid wartime. The growing interest in military-themed literature reflects Ukrainians' need to understand and process their own history and experiences arising from the conflict. Meanwhile, the situation in Russia reveals a limited openness to discussing the war, which may shape public consciousness and the future trajectory of events in that country.
