Ukrainian Teachers to Receive 30% Pay Raise This Week.
Pay Increase for Ukrainian Educators
According to TSN.ua: Ukrainian teachers are set to receive a 30% salary increase, effective from January 1, 2023, with the first enhanced payments arriving this week. This marks the first stage of a planned two-part raise for the year, with a second increase scheduled for September 1, 2023. This development is a significant step in the government's efforts to improve the financial standing and professional status of educators, a crucial sector for the country's future.
Additional Allowances and Future Plans
In addition to the base salary increase, teachers will receive supplementary payments:
- 2,000 hryvnias for all educators;
- 4,000 hryvnias for teachers working in frontline communities.
Looking further ahead, a more substantial 50% salary increase is planned for 2026. This is expected to bring the average teacher's salary to approximately 30,000 hryvnias, aiming to substantially improve the financial situation for education professionals.
Yuliia Svyrydenko emphasized that 'payments must be timely and in full — as always, based on the state educational subvention and additional payments from local self-government bodies.'
This salary reform reflects the government's commitment to improving teacher working conditions and elevating the profession's status. Ensuring these scheduled raises are implemented on time is vital for maintaining stability in the education system. Furthermore, the targeted support for teachers in frontline areas is essential for retaining skilled educators and safeguarding the quality of children's education in these challenging regions.
