Flu type A nearly killed a child in Britain: a mother's story of coma and rescue.
According to ТСН: 12-year-old Jessica Williamson from Great Britain experienced a critical condition after contracting flu type A. Initially, doctors believed her ailment was just a regular infection, but soon the illness complicated into sepsis and pneumonia, forcing the girl to spend weeks in intensive care.
Jessica's condition worsened
The child's condition deteriorated so much that she was urgently hospitalized. Doctors confirmed the diagnosis - flu type A combined with sepsis and necrotizing pneumonia. Jessica's mother, Ashley Moore, was horrified when she realized she might lose her daughter.
Powerful emotions of the mother
Ashley shares her experiences:
“It broke my heart - to see her in a drug-induced coma. It felt like I was watching someone else's life, and it all seemed unreal. There were moments when we thought she would never leave the hospital and wouldn’t see Christmas”.
She also emphasized that she did not believe in the seriousness of the flu until it happened to their family:
“Now I urge people to get vaccinated against the flu. You also need to trust your intuition and seek a second opinion. It's scary to even imagine what would have happened if that night we had just gone to bed [instead of taking her back to the hospital]”.
Challenges in treatment
Jessica's recovery process lasted three weeks, during which the girl showed signs of delirium. Doctors noted that this case once again highlights the dangers of the flu, especially for children. The mother recalled that at the initial stage, she was prescribed only one dose of paracetamol.
The global flu situation
At the same time, a surge of mutated flu H3N2 is being recorded around the world, already noted in over 30 countries. The virus has undergone significant mutations, causing most people to lack immunity, and scientists predict its further spread. Although the symptoms remain classical, the rise in incidence poses a threat to a large number of people, including the elderly and those with weakened health.
In connection with these events, it is important to pay attention to flu prevention, which can include vaccinations and regular consultations with doctors. In a situation where the risk of illnesses increases, particularly in the winter period, it is vital to remain vigilant and not ignore symptoms. The material provided in this news is a reminder of the seriousness of the flu and the importance of timely medical assistance.Read also
