Up to 300,000 UAH Monthly: Zelenskyy Unveils Major Overhaul of Ukraine's Armed Forces.
A Comprehensive Reform of Service in Ukraine's Defense Forces
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine is launching a sweeping reform of its Defense Forces, introducing new contract models, pay structures, and service organization. For infantry soldiers, average monthly salaries will reach approximately 300,000 hryvnias, with maximum pay possibly hitting 460,000 hryvnias. Meanwhile, the minimum financial allowance for troops in rear units is set to rise from 20,000 to 30,000 hryvnias.
Contract Types and Key Innovations
The reform establishes three main contract types:
- Infantry-assault contract: valid for 10 or 14 months;
- Combat contract: valid for 24 months;
- Basic contract: covering logistics and technical roles, also lasting 24 months.
After completing service, soldiers will receive a deferral from mobilization, with the length depending on their service duration and combat involvement. A monitoring system for assault units on the front lines is also planned, aimed at boosting their operational effectiveness. A key feature is the automation of transfer processes through a dedicated app called 'Army+'. Additionally, recruitment programs for foreign nationals into the Defense Forces will expand, seeking to bring in fresh personnel.
The reform also introduces a 'return window' for service members who have left their units without authorization, allowing them to come back to duty.
In June 2026, Ukrainian military personnel will receive salaries and additional 'combat' payments for May. 'This was reported by 'Novyny.LIVE' - Volodymyr Zelenskyy'.
Ultimately, this overhaul of Ukraine's Defense Forces aims not only to improve financial compensation for soldiers but also to refine management and service organization. These changes could significantly boost troop motivation, readiness for missions, and the country's overall defensive capacity amid ongoing challenges. The push to recruit foreign citizens further signals Ukraine's intent to strengthen its military in the face of sustained aggression.
