President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskiy spoke about his conversation with US presidential candidate Donald Trump regarding Ukraine's accession to NATO and the nuclear weapons issue.

He reported this at a press conference after the meeting of the European Council, where he presented the "victory plan".

Zelenskiy recalled the Budapest Memorandum, which failed to protect Ukraine after renouncing nuclear weapons. "Which of these great countries, all nuclear states, suffered? All? No, one – Ukraine. Who gave up nuclear weapons? All? One – Ukraine. Who is fighting today? Ukraine," the president pointed out.

In a conversation with Trump, Zelenskiy stressed the dilemma: "Either Ukraine will have nuclear weapons - and then it is protection for us. Or we must have some kind of alliance. Aside from NATO, today we do not know of effective alliances." According to the president, Trump replied that Ukraine's arguments are legitimate.

Zelenskiy also noted that most EU leaders supported his "victory plan". He warned that lack of support for this plan would become "a privilege for Russia and a big mistake".

The President reported information about North Korea preparing people for war in Ukraine and discussing long-range strikes deep into the Russian Federation with partners. He emphasized the importance of strengthening Ukraine for a quicker end to the war.

Zelenskiy also stressed the need for NATO actions to match statements about the importance of Ukraine for the alliance. He noted that the second Peace Summit will take place regardless of the implementation of the Victory Plan points, which includes not only military but also economic measures to strengthen Ukraine.

Recall, Zelenskiy said that he will save Europe from Putin.
