Zelenskyy Imposes Sanctions on Firms Aiding Russian Oil Tankers.
Sanctions Target Russian Tanker Fleet
According to UATV: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has enacted a decree imposing sanctions on companies that service the Russian tanker fleet and transport sanctioned oil. This move, signed on February 2, aims to intensify pressure on Russia amidst its ongoing war of aggression. The sanctions are part of a broader strategy to disrupt the oil logistics of the Russian Federation.
The sanctions directly target those firms providing services to Russian oil tankers. This action coincides with the European Union synchronizing sanctions against six Russian propagandists, demonstrating a coordinated international response to the Kremlin's actions. These measures highlight the international community's unity in countering Russian aggression and support Ukraine's defense efforts.
New EU Sanctions Package Anticipated
A 20th package of EU sanctions, also aimed at fully blocking Russian oil logistics, is expected to be adopted by February 24. President Zelenskyy emphasized that
"we are countering all attempts by the Russian regime to destabilize the situation in Ukraine"and expressed gratitude to all those assisting Ukraine during this difficult period. This decree is part of comprehensive measures taken by Ukraine and its international partners to increase economic pressure on Russia.
The sanctions against companies servicing the Russian tanker fleet are designed not only to reduce the aggressor's financial resources but also to complicate its ability to wage war. This follows a pattern of Western-led sanctions targeting Russia's crucial energy export revenue, which funds its military operations.
