Zelensky Supports the Idea of a Christmas Ceasefire: What You Need to Know About the Initiative.
Statement by the President of Ukraine on the Christmas Ceasefire
According to ТСН: President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has supported the initiative for a Christmas ceasefire proposed by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. He noted that this idea was discussed during official negotiations and received support from the United States.
The head of state emphasized Ukraine's readiness to support any forms of ceasefire, including energy ceasefires.
“As president, I unequivocally support such an idea. We will support any ceasefire,” he stated.
Zelensky stressed that Ukraine is acting in cooperation with partners in Europe and the United States, taking steps to end the war. However, he also noted that much in this process depends on the political will of Russia.
The president emphasized the importance of preparing the relevant documents that will significantly impact the implementation of the initiative for stopping hostilities.
It should be reminded that two weeks ago, the spokesperson for the Russian dictator Putin, Dmitry Peskov, stated that the topic of a possible Christmas ceasefire at the front had not yet been discussed.
This move could be a significant moment in efforts to extinguish the conflict, especially in light of support from many countries. However, as the president noted, resolving the situation largely depends on Russia's willingness to negotiate, which creates difficulties in implementing such initiatives.
