New leaders: The Romanian presidential elections were won by Nicusor Dan
After counting the votes from all polling stations in Romania, it became known that in the second round of the presidential elections, the pro-Western candidate Nicusor Dan won. According to the Central Election Commission, the pro-European independent mayor of Bucharest received 53.60% of the votes, while the far-right pro-Russian leader of the AUR party, George Simion, received 46.40%.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, congratulated Nicusor Dan on his 'historic victory' in the presidential elections in Romania.
In his congratulation, Zelensky noted that it is important for Ukraine to have a reliable partner in Romania. Promising to strengthen the partnership, he thanked the Romanian people for their support during a difficult time. 'We will always treat Romania and its people with great respect,' the president emphasized. 'I hope for further development of strategic partnership between our states for their stability, security, and prosperity,' he added.
These elections were an important event for the internal political situation in Romania and its relations with Ukraine. We hope that cooperation between the countries will continue and be strengthened in the most beneficial way for both parties.
