Zelenskyy Seeks Foreign Troops Closer to Front Lines, Citing Potential 10,000 from UK and France.
Ukraine's President Outlines Stance on Foreign Military Presence
According to Novyny.live: In an interview with AFP, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed a clear preference for foreign military contingents to be stationed nearer to the front lines, rather than in rear-area cities. He emphasized that Ukraine does not view the world through a simplistic 'East-West' lens, highlighting the nation's focus on active cooperation with international partners to meet current security challenges. This request comes as Ukraine seeks to bolster its defensive posture against ongoing Russian aggression.
Zelenskyy revealed that France and the United Kingdom are each prepared to contribute roughly a brigade of troops, which could total approximately 10,000 personnel.
“Britain and France, they are officially... ready to provide a brigade,” the President stated.Such a deployment would significantly enhance Ukraine's defensive capabilities in the face of persistent threats.
Effectiveness of Support and Troop Deployment
The President also noted that aircraft could be based in neighboring countries to provide more effective support. However, he clarified that Ukraine's partners have not yet given a definitive response to these proposed arrangements.
“We would like to see the contingent closer to the front line,” he concluded, stressing the importance of having foreign forces positioned directly near the combat zone.
President Zelenskyy's statements signal a strategic shift in Ukraine's approach to international military aid, calling for a more active and forward-deployed presence from its allies. This reflects a growing understanding in Kyiv of the critical need for rapid and effective support from Western partners, especially as military threats intensify. The subsequent decisions by these nations could prove decisive for regional stability and for strengthening Ukraine's defensive capacity.
