Zelenskyy Labels Hungarian PM Orban a Russian Ally Amidst Bilateral Tensions.
Ukrainian President's Remarks on the Conflict with Hungary
According to Novyny.live: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has commented on the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Hungary, specifically targeting the stance of Prime Minister Viktor Orban, whom he considers an ally of Russia. Zelenskyy noted that Orban has blocked decisions beneficial to Ukraine throughout Russia's full-scale war. According to the president, Hungary intends to maintain its supply of Russian oil.
Zelenskyy emphasized that the Hungarian government has clearly stated its position, showing no support for Ukraine.
"They have clearly stated they will not support Ukraine because they have real friends in Russia,"the president remarked. These words reflect Ukraine's concern over Hungary's cooperation with Russia, which could negatively impact Ukrainian interests. This public criticism highlights a significant rift within the European Union over support for Kyiv.
Pipeline Situation and Potential for Blackmail
On March 11, a Hungarian delegation arrived in Ukraine to inspect the condition and restart operations of the 'Druzhba' oil pipeline. However, Zelenskyy stated he was unaware of the purpose of this visit. Simultaneously, the visit of Hungarian Deputy Minister of Energy Gabor Csepek has been postponed, which may indicate difficulties in the negotiation process.
The president also suggested the possibility of blackmail from Hungary.
"If this is an opportunity, and if the European Union has no reaction to Hungarian statements, then Ukraine will update its position,"Zelenskyy stressed. These comments indicate that Ukraine plans to adapt its strategy in response to Hungary's actions and its stance on the conflict with Russia. The situation underscores the complex geopolitical pressures Ukraine faces beyond the front lines.
The conflict between Ukraine and Hungary, set against the backdrop of the war with Russia, could intensify regional tensions and affect Ukraine's standing in international negotiations. The lack of support from Hungary, traditionally an EU ally, is causing concern in Kyiv and may prompt a review of cooperation strategies with other nations. This situation demands close attention from the international community, as Hungary's actions could have far-reaching consequences for security and stability in the region.
