Zelenskyy Details Russian Energy Strikes and Outlines Response Plan.
State of Ukraine's Energy Infrastructure
According to UATV: President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reported on recent Russian strikes targeting Ukraine's energy facilities and warned of preparations for a more massive assault. In response, Zelenskyy has issued directives to Air Force Commander Anatolii Kryvonozhko, Minister of Defense Mykhailo Fedorov, and the head of 'Ukrenergo,' Vitalii Zaichenko. Measures are being prepared to protect these critical energy assets against potential new attacks. These strikes are part of a wider Russian campaign to degrade civilian infrastructure as winter approaches.
Key Actions and International Cooperation
Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed the urgent need to accelerate cooperation with international partners on air defense, stating:
'The task of all relevant state institutions is to expedite our partners' work on air defense.'Furthermore, plans are in place to supply approximately 90,000 thermal packs to regions that may be most vulnerable during the cold season. This initiative is part of broader efforts to ensure the safety and basic comfort of the population.
In the coming days, an energy-focused 'Ramstein format' meeting is scheduled to take place in France. Participants will include G7 nations, partners from Northern Europe and the Baltics, as well as ministers from the US, Canada, and the EU. This meeting will discuss further steps to strengthen Ukraine's energy security and coordinate actions in response to Russian aggression.
Zelenskyy also emphasized that
'every Russian missile is the aggressor's answer to calls to end the war.'The situation in the country remains tense, and Ukrainian authorities are actively taking steps to protect vital infrastructure. Among the cities and regions identified as potential targets are:
- Kharkiv
- Zaporizhzhia
- Poltava
- Sumy Oblast
- Kropyvnytskyi
- Kyiv
- Ternopil
Given the circumstances, enhancing the protection of Ukraine's energy infrastructure has become a top government priority. Active collaboration with international partners on air defense and energy security is crucial for bolstering the country's resilience amid ongoing aggression. The planned meetings and the distribution of thermal packs to vulnerable regions demonstrate the Ukrainian government's readiness to address the challenges of the winter period.
