Zelenskyy Clarifies Southern Offensive and Starlink as Separate Events.
Ukrainian President's Statement
According to Novyny.live: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has clarified that the southern offensive by Ukraine's Armed Forces (ZSU) was planned well before the decision to cut off Russian access to Starlink satellite communications. He stressed these are two entirely separate developments. Zelenskyy noted the southern operation, which liberated 400 square kilometers of territory, began a full month prior to the Starlink decision.
“Let's examine this step by step. The Starlink decision is undoubtedly positive and will be beneficial. But at the same time, I want to thank our military—the operation in the south, which liberated 400 sq. km of territory, started a month before the Starlink decision. Therefore, these are two independent things, but both should be assessed positively,” stated Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Significance of Military Operations
The president's remarks underscore the critical importance of Ukraine's military initiatives and indicate that strategic decisions, like the Starlink cutoff, do not impact pre-planned ZSU actions. The southern offensive, which resulted in the liberation of significant territory, demonstrates Ukraine's ongoing efforts to regain control of its lands and its ability to adapt strategy amid fluid circumstances. This context is crucial for understanding Ukraine's multi-faceted response to the invasion.
It may also point to the increasing effectiveness of Ukrainian armed forces in countering Russian aggression.
