Zelenskyy Warns of Upgraded Iranian 'Shahed' Drones with Jet Engines and Real-Time Control.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Address at the Munich Security Conference
According to UATV: During his speech at the Munich Security Conference on February 14, 2023, Volodymyr Zelenskyy detailed the evolution of Iranian 'Shahed' drones, which are now equipped with jet engines and possess new capabilities. The President stressed that these technological upgrades allow the drones to operate at various altitudes and be controlled in real time. He specifically noted that the 'Shahed' drones can utilize Starlink systems to reach their targets. These modifications represent a significant escalation in the threat posed by Russia's long-range strike arsenal.
Delays in Weapons Deliveries
Zelenskyy also highlighted how delays in weapons supplies are negatively impacting Ukraine's position in the war against Russia. He observed that
“our air defense sometimes lacks the missiles to repel massive Russian attacks.”This statement underscores the difficulties Ukrainian forces face in mounting an effective defense due to ammunition shortages. The ongoing conflict has evolved into a war of attrition where sustained logistical support is critical.
Russia has been using 'Shahed' drones against Ukraine since 2022. Volodymyr Zelenskyy reflected,
“I remember how the full-scale war was perceived in the first years... Russia is using this time against people.”This emphasizes the crucial importance of timely assistance for Ukraine in countering the aggression. The security situation in the region raises ongoing questions about future developments and the urgent need to strengthen Ukraine's defensive capabilities.
Zelenskyy's statements at the conference point to a critical situation in Ukraine's defense, particularly given Russian aggression and the active deployment of new drone technologies. A high dependence on external supplies of weapons and ammunition jeopardizes the ability to effectively counter these threats. These factors highlight the pressing need for sustained international support for Ukraine in its fight for sovereignty and territorial integrity.
