Statement from Volodymyr Zelenskyy

According to Novyny.live: In a message published on his Telegram channel on Monday, February 2, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that there had been no coordinated, targeted strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, while still confirming Russian attacks on power facilities. He emphasized that the Russian military is currently focused on terrorizing Ukrainian logistics, a clear sign of Russia's ongoing aggression. This distinction comes amid a prolonged campaign where energy systems have been a frequent target.

Energy Infrastructure Situation

Emergency power outages are currently in effect in several Ukrainian regions, highlighting the severe consequences of the attacks. Notably, a thermal power station in Kyiv has sustained critical damage from Russian strikes. The situation with Ukraine's energy infrastructure remains tense, as continued shelling damages critical facilities, and the blackouts suggest significant potential impact on civilians and the economy.

When commenting on a potential energy ceasefire, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declined to disclose any timeframe for its duration. He remarked:

'I have nothing to add to what I told you at the last conference call, which specifically concerned February 1.' Dmitry Peskov

These statements underscore the precarious state of Ukraine's energy security and the Russian side's response to international scrutiny of the issue. The Kremlin's ambiguous position on a potential energy truce suggests the conflict in this sector is likely to continue.
