Ukraine Prepared to Retaliate Against Russian Energy Strikes, Says Zelenskyy.
Zelenskyy's Statement on Ukraine's Energy Security
According to Novyny.live: During a press conference held in Kyiv on February 3, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy declared that Ukraine is prepared to respond to Russian attacks targeting its energy infrastructure. He stressed the critical importance of protecting these vital systems, stating that the matter is under control. This comes as Russia's ongoing invasion has frequently targeted Ukraine's power grid.
When asked by journalist Halyna Ostapovets about Ukraine's potential reaction to such Russian assaults, Zelenskyy declined to reveal specific military plans. He responded by saying:
'Regarding any of our military steps, we generally try not to inform the aggressor about our plans.' Volodymyr Zelenskyy
The President further emphasized that complex work is underway to address capability shortages. 'We are working on complex issues regarding deficit capabilities, which is why both the Air Force and relevant ministries are present at this meeting. We are dealing with these matters,' he noted.
The Critical Role of National Security
Zelenskyy's remarks highlight the paramount importance of ensuring national security and safeguarding critical infrastructure amid Russia's continued aggression. The deliberate lack of specific military details reflects a strategic aim to avoid further escalation while maintaining a clear readiness to counter new threats. Protecting energy systems is especially crucial during the winter months, when infrastructure attacks can have devastating humanitarian consequences for the civilian population.
