Zelenskyy Holds Emergency Meeting on Energy Attacks, Reviews Regional Impact.
Zelenskyy Convenes Emergency Session on Regional Energy Crisis
According to Novyny.live: On February 1, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held an emergency meeting to address the situation in Ukrainian regions suffering from power outages caused by Russian strikes, specifically in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast and Kyiv. These attacks are part of a wider Russian campaign targeting civilian infrastructure. The meeting focused on the distribution of emergency heating supplies to civilians affected by the assaults.
In Ternivka, Pavlohrad district of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, Russian drone strikes hit a bus carrying miners, killing 15 people and wounding seven others. The cities of Nikopol and Marhanets also reported power disruptions following drone attacks, compounding the difficulties in these areas.
In the capital, Kyiv, more than 500 apartment buildings remain without heating, creating severe hardship for residents. President Zelenskyy emphasized that
"an extremely difficult situation with heating continues in Kyiv".
To aid civilians, approximately 5,000 emergency heating kits are being distributed daily in the Kyiv region. Zelenskyy also reported strikes on railway infrastructure in Konotop, Sumy Oblast. These events underscore the severe strain on Ukraine's energy grid resulting from Russia's ongoing aggression.
Humanitarian Consequences of the Assaults
These incidents demonstrate the continuation of systematic Russian attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure, leading to grave humanitarian consequences. Amid winter conditions, the loss of electricity and heating poses a major threat to the population, especially in regions directly targeted by shelling. While authorities are implementing measures to support those affected, the situation remains critical.
