Zelensky on red lines in negotiations with Russia: what will not be discussed.
According to ТСН: Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, noted that Kyiv's position on territorial issues in negotiations with Russia is clear and understandable for American partners. He emphasized that there are significant differences between Ukraine and Moscow on these issues.
Zelensky expressed his thoughts at a business forum in Germany, stating:
“We clearly understand what they (Russia, – ed.) want. We may believe it, some may not believe it, but we know one hundred percent what they want. And it is important that the American partners clearly understood me.”
The President emphasized the importance of clearly communicating Ukraine's position, acknowledging the existence of fundamental contradictions with Russia that need to be openly discussed.
He added:
“Certainly, we have different positions with Russia regarding territories. This also needs to be understood and absolutely talked about openly.”
Zelensky also expressed hope that both sides could hear each other, suggesting that the American side could take on the role of mediator in finding possible solutions to the conflict.
It is reminded that during complicated negotiations in Berlin, Zelensky refused to discuss the unilateral withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from the Donetsk region, emphasizing readiness for compromises, albeit with 'red lines'.
The President also spoke about the progress of negotiations with the American side that took place in Berlin.
These comments from Zelensky reflect Ukraine's desire to maintain an open dialogue with allies while retaining the right to defend its territories. The importance of such a position underscores the aspiration for a constructive resolution to the conflict based on clear principles and international cooperation.
