Zelenskyy in Munich Details Ukraine's Defense Against Thousands of Missiles and Drones.
Zelenskyy's Address at the Munich Security Conference
According to UATV: Speaking at the Munich Security Conference on February 14, Volodymyr Zelenskyy outlined the immense challenges Ukraine faces in its war with Russia and underscored the vital importance of sustained international support. He argued that
"peace is built on interests, and you must work tirelessly to align those interests and help others see what war brings."
The President's speech came against a backdrop of intense Russian attacks, which saw 24 ballistic missiles and 219 attack drones launched against Ukraine. The primary cities targeted in these assaults were:
- Kyiv
- Dnipro
- Odesa
Through 1,451 days of war, Ukraine has endured relentless trials, demonstrating remarkable resilience and a steadfast will to fight. The Munich conference is a key annual forum where global security leaders discuss defense and diplomatic strategies.
Zelenskyy further revealed the staggering scale of the threat, stating that in January 2023 alone, Ukraine had to intercept 6,000 attack drones, 5,000 aerial bombs, and 160 missiles. This highlights the constant pressure from the aggressor and the critical need for partner assistance. He emphasized this point, noting that
"our air defense used missiles to repel the attack that we received from our partners literally just days before,"pointing to the direct and immediate impact of foreign aid on the country's defensive capabilities.
The Critical Need for International Support
Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Munich address painted a clear picture of the dire situation in Ukraine and the urgent need for consolidated international efforts to support the country against military aggression.
The President's remarks reflect the ongoing and escalating challenges Ukraine confronts, including mounting pressure from Russia. The international support Zelenskyy referenced is crucial for ensuring the nation's stability and security. Recent events, particularly the intense missile barrages, underscore the immediate necessity of bolstering Ukraine's defensive capacities and maintaining global solidarity in the face of this prolonged conflict.
