President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced the start of Russian "rapid offensive actions" in the Kursk region, but noted that the enemy has not yet achieved significant success. He made this statement during a conversation with Fareed Zakaria at the Yalta European Strategy.
According to Zelensky, the Russians plan to involve about 60-70 thousand military personnel in this direction, although about 40 thousand are currently there. "They wanted quick breakthroughs... They are doing this, we have not yet seen serious successes. Our military is heroically holding on and doing everything necessary for our other steps, military-political," said the president.
Zelensky also emphasized that the result of the operation in the Kursk region was a decrease in the number of shellings in Donbass. In particular, in the Pokrovsky direction, the ratio of shell usage changed from 1 to 12 before the start of the Kursk operation to 1 to 2.5 today.
The president noted that the situation in the Pokrovsky direction is gradually leveling out, but Ukraine still needs more weapons than the Russians.
Earlier, Zelensky confirmed the start of counteroffensive actions by Russian troops in the Kursk region, noting that the situation is developing according to the Ukrainian plan. He also reported on the control of the situation regarding the concentration of troops in Belarus.
