Zelensky changed the date of the Special Operations Forces Day celebration.
The President established the Day of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, signed a decree establishing May 27 as the Day of the Special Operations Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This occurred after the decree from July 26, 2016, regarding this holiday was rendered invalid. The decision to establish a new holiday was made to initiate new military traditions.
The command of the Special Operations Forces explained that the date of May 27 was chosen not by chance. In 2014, on this day, special forces soldiers, together with other military personnel, liberated the new terminal of Donetsk Airport from the enemy and raised the flag of Ukraine.
“On this day in 2014, the soldiers of the special forces regiments, the future Special Operations Forces, together with their brothers from other branches of the Defense Forces, conducted an operation to liberate the new terminal of Donetsk Airport from enemy troops and raised the flag of Ukraine”
By a separate order of the commander of the Special Operations Forces, July 29 has been designated as a day of commemoration for fallen soldiers of the Special Operations Forces. It should be noted that operators of the eighth regiment of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine recently eliminated 13 servicemen from North Korea in Kursk.
In particular, the Special Operations Forces continue to carry out tasks in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation and have captured Russian soldiers. Additionally, a special platform has been created where anyone willing can join the resistance movement by filling out a corresponding application on the website opir.org.ua.
Ukraine honors its heroes and continues the struggle for its independence and territorial integrity. The new holiday that has been established will be celebrated annually as a symbol of recognition of the courage and heroism of soldiers.
