Volodymyr Zelensky Sounds Alarm Over Middle East War's Impact on Ukraine

According to UATV: In an interview with Axios, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed concerns about how the ongoing conflict in the Middle East could affect his country. He argued that Russia has an interest in a protracted war there, as it could divert U.S. attention and resources away from Ukraine, potentially reducing American military aid. This situation, he warned, plays directly into Moscow's hands.

“I am convinced that Russia wants a long war. They benefit: the U.S. is focused on the Middle East and may cut military assistance to Ukraine,” Zelensky stated.

Sanctions Relief and New Middle East Deals

Zelensky also highlighted the possibility of the U.S. easing sanctions on Russian oil sales. “Sanctions have been partially lifted. I see only advantages for Russia from a prolonged war with Iran,” he said, emphasizing that increased revenue from energy exports would bolster Moscow's war effort and harm Ukraine. “If the Russians are now getting more money from energy, that won't help us,” the president added.

Separately, Ukraine is planning to sign ten-year agreements with Saudi Arabia and Qatar, with a potential deal also under consideration with the United Arab Emirates. Under these arrangements, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, and Jordan would receive interceptor drones from Ukraine.

Zelensky's remarks underscore how closely Kyiv is monitoring global shifts that could impact its security and Western support. With Russia potentially benefiting from reduced U.S. attention on Ukraine, international backing and strategic partnerships have become even more critical for Kyiv. Signing these accords with Middle Eastern nations could be a key step in strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities and diversifying its military alliances.
