Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled a large-scale Russian offensive in the Kursk region: ISW maps.
The Russian invaders have intensified offensive operations in the Kursk region and advanced southeast of Borovaya. Ukrainian troops, on the other hand, have advanced northwest of Suzhiv, particularly into western Mykolaivka. This is evidenced by maps from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Kursk Region
According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Russian troops began offensive operations in the Kursk region and were able to advance northwest of Suzhiv on January 9. They captured Leonidove and Oleksandriya, as indicated by geolocated footage.
Ukrainian troops, for their part, have managed to advance northwest of Suzhiv, including western Mykolaivka.
According to the official report from the Ukrainian Armed Forces brigade that repelled the attack, Russian troops stormed in six waves and used 50 tanks, infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs), armored personnel carriers (APCs), and civilian vehicles in the attack. Ukrainian forces reported the destruction of a certain number of Russian equipment during the assault.
Russian milbloggers also claimed that Ukrainian forces were counter-attacking in the vicinity of Pogrebki, Nova Sorochyna, Stara Sorochyna, and Mykolaivka.
Kharkiv Region
In the Kharkiv region, near Staritsia and Vovchansk, Russian troops continue to advance, but have not made progress so far. The same applies to the Kupiansk and Lyman directions. However, they managed to advance southeast of Borovaya, which is located west and northwest of Makiyivka.
On January 9, Russian troops continued to advance in the Kupiansk direction, but have not yet made further progress. According to a Russian source, they approached a certain distance south of Dvorichna, but this is not confirmed by ISW data. An officer of the Ukrainian Armed Forces brigade, who participated in the offensive on the Kupiansk direction, stated that Russian troops are trying to exploit deteriorating weather conditions to carry out assaults with small infantry groups.
Russian troops continue to storm the northeast of Borovaya in the area of Koliznikovka, Zahryzove, Zelenyi Hai, Borysivka, Andriivka, Kopanky; east of Borovaya near Novoehorivka, Tverdokhlibovogo; and southeast of Borovaya near Makiyivka and Hrekiivka on January 8 and 9.
Lyman Direction
On January 9, Russian troops continued offensive actions in the Lyman direction but were unable to confirm their advancement. According to a Russian source, they approached a certain tactical height near Kolodiav and began an assault, but this is not confirmed by ISW data.
On January 8 and 9, Russian troops continued offensive actions northeast of Lyman in the area of Ivanivka and Tern.
Severian Direction
On January 9, Russian troops continued offensive actions in the Severian direction but were unable to confirm their advancement. The same applies to Chasiv Yar and Toretsk.
According to a Russian milblogger, on January 8, Russian troops almost completely pushed Ukrainian forces to the outskirts of Toretsk. On the Toretsk direction, operations are continuing by drone units of the Russian 80th Separate Reconnaissance Battalion 'Sparta' and the 132nd OMSBr.
Pokrovsk Direction
Russian troops are conducting offensive actions in the Pokrovsk direction and have managed to advance east of Yasenove, which is located south of Pokrovsk.
Moreover, Russian troops continue offensive actions at Pokrovsk itself; east of Pokrovsk - Baranivka, Myrolubivka, Yelyzavetivka, Vodiane Druhe, Promin; southeast of Pokrovsk near Lysivka; south of Pokrovsk near Zelenyi and Novyi Trud; southwest of Pokrovsk near Pishchanoe, Zvirove, Uspenivka, Novovasyliivka, Nadiivka, Solonyi, Novoelyzavetivka; and west of Pokrovsk near Kotlyn at January 8 and 9.
Kurakhiv Direction
The occupiers continue offensive actions in the Kurakhiv direction but have not yet been able to confirm their advancement.
Russian troops advanced northwest of Kurakhove near Sribne, Shevchenko, Petropavlivka, Sloviansk; west of Kurakhove towards Kostiantynivka and Andriivka; south of Kurakhove near Dachne; southwest of Kurakhove near Kostiantynivska and Yantarne.
Southern Front
On January 9, Russian troops continued offensive operations in the west of the Zaporizhzhia region, but have not yet been able to make progress. A Russian milblogger claimed that Ukrainian forces counter-attacked near Mala Tokmachka, but this is not confirmed by ISW data.
On January 8 and 9, Russian troops continued offensive operations in the west of the Zaporizhzhia region, in the area of Myrolubivka and Nova Kakhovka.
