Public Transport Stops During Air Alerts in Kyiv: Klitschko Reacted Sharply.
The Kyiv authorities will not change the rules for stopping public transport during air alerts
The Kyiv authorities will not change the rules for stopping public transport during air alerts, as this is a matter of citizens' safety.
This was reported by Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko on his Telegram channel.
'The city authorities are guided exclusively by the recommendations of the military, who are directly responsible for the city's defense and protecting the residents during attacks. People in public transport are also a target for the enemy,' Klitschko emphasized.
According to him, the Council for the Defense of the City makes decisions regarding safety. The mayor emphasized that populist decisions about the movement of transport during alerts can lead to tragedy.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, 4 cases of enemy ammunition debris falling in ground metro areas have been recorded in Kyiv. A part of a missile was also found near a Metro bridge support that did not detonate.
Klitschko reminded about the tragic cases of hits on public transport in Mykolaiv, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia. In the capital, as a result of enemy shelling, 22 units of rolling stock of KP 'Kyivpastrans' were damaged.
It is worth noting that the Council for the Defense of Kyiv will soon consider the issue of restoring public transport movement during air alerts.
Currently, there is a ban on the movement of vehicles during alerts, which was introduced on August 1, 2022.
It should be noted that the cost of a trip in Kyiv's public transport currently stands at 8 hryvnias, while purchasing 50 trips costs 6.50 hryvnias per trip. At the same Time, the real cost of transporting one passenger in the metro is 36.90 UAH, and in ground transport it is 26.22 UAH.
As reported, as a result of a massive enemy attack on December 20, 2024, the city's transport infrastructure was damaged, which affected the operation of public transport in certain areas of the capital.
