A trilateral meeting of the USA, Ukraine, and Russia at the leadership level will not help to end the war, claims Mikhail Podolyak, advisor to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine. He believes that Putin does not wish to end the conflict, as the existence of Russia is linked to the war. Putin has several basic scenarios, including stalling, dragging out long peace negotiations, and distancing the USA from Europe and Ukraine. In Podolyak's view, the war is a way for Russia to maintain its statehood, and in other scenarios, an internal conflict may arise in the country. Sharp contradictions and social discord are just some of the problems Russia will face after the war. Friedrich Merz and Marco Rubio expressed different opinions regarding the possibility of a meeting between Putin and Zelensky.
