Fines for pedestrians and cyclists: for what violations can they be punished

Even when walking down the street, Ukrainians should adhere to certain commonly accepted rules. However, some neglect this obligation while moving through populated areas, which may result in a fine.

Traffic violations in Ukraine

About what Ukrainians can be fined for on the street is indicated in Article 127 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses.

Not only drivers participate in road traffic, but also pedestrians, cyclists, drivers of horse-drawn vehicles, and even animal herders. All of them bear responsibility for violating traffic rules.

  • Pedestrians who violate the rules may receive a fine of 255 hryvnias;
  • if violating while intoxicated, the fine increases to 680 hryvnias.

Violating traffic rules by cyclists, drivers of horse-drawn vehicles, or animal herders results in a fine of 20 non-taxable minimum incomes of citizens (340 hryvnias). In case of intoxication, the fine increases to 40 such minimums (680 hryvnias).

What happens if your actions lead to an emergency situation

If the actions of a pedestrian, cyclist, or another road participant lead to an emergency situation, the prescribed punishment is a fine of 850 hryvnias or 20–40 hours of community service.

Police can issue a fine without a court decision. It can be paid immediately or within 15 days from the date of receiving the fine notice. If not done, the case will be transferred to the state enforcement service at the place of residence or work of the offender, and then the amount of the fine will be doubled.

Earlier we wrote that theft remains one of the most common types of offenses that Ukrainian law enforcement regularly encounters.

We also mentioned that citizens of Ukraine are currently returning from European countries, but it is important to adhere to customs requirements, as violating these rules can lead to fines or even confiscation of property or cash.

Ukrainians must comply with traffic rules, regardless of how they move through the streets. Violating these rules may lead to fines or other sanctions, so every road participant must be attentive and responsible.
