A 9-Meter Asteroid Will Zoom Past Earth on March 26: Here Are Its Speed and Distance.
Upcoming Asteroid Flybys Near Earth
According to TSN.ua: On March 26, 2026, a 9-meter-wide asteroid designated 2026 FB4 will race past our planet at a blistering 37,332 km/h. It will maintain a safe distance of 650,000 kilometers from Earth. For context, another asteroid, 2026 FB3, measures about 16 meters across and will pass at a much farther range of 2.8 million kilometers.
Alongside 2026 FB4, three other space rocks are expected to make close approaches:
- 2026 FA3
- 2026 FL4
- 2026 FX5
While such events might spark public concern, experts reassure that an asteroid up to 91 meters in size crashing into the ocean would not trigger a major tsunami.
Studying Objects in Space
Although asteroid flybys can seem alarming, the evidence shows these objects pose no threat to life or safety on Earth. Monitoring them is a vital part of astronomical research, helping us better understand the dynamics of our solar system.
Regular tracking of asteroids allows scientists to develop strategies for potential future hazards and deepens our knowledge of these objects' composition and evolution in space.
