SBU Detains FSB Agent with Explosives in Lviv: The Case has been Sent to Court.
According to ТСН: The investigators and the SBU have completed the investigation of a case involving a Russian FSB agent who had planned a terrorist attack by placing explosives in an administrative building of law enforcement agencies in Lviv. The perpetrator was detained back in July while transporting explosives, and now his case has already been sent to court.
According to SBU information, the suspect was transporting an explosive device to carry out plans of Russian intelligence against Ukrainian law enforcement agencies.
Detention of the Agent
The operational measures of the SBU allowed for the timely uncovering of the criminal plan and the arrest of the agent as he was heading to Lviv with explosives. After the arrest, the intelligence agency conducted a series of measures to identify the perpetrator and document his accomplices in Russia.
The investigations revealed that a 41-year-old resident of the town of Pustomyty in the Lviv region, who had previously been convicted of serious crimes, was carrying out orders from the Russian intelligence service. After his release from prison, he began communicating with representatives of the aggressor country and seeking opportunities for earnings.
Planning and Execution
It was established that the agent initially visited Chmelnyzkyj, where he found a hideout with homemade explosives based on the provided coordinates. He then took a taxi to the bus station, from where he planned to go to Lviv to receive further instructions.
SBU officers detained him while he was boarding the bus. During the search, an explosive device and a mobile phone were seized, which he used to communicate with his supervisor.
According to the SBU, the agent is charged with treason in wartime. He is currently in custody, facing life imprisonment with asset forfeiture.
Additionally, the SBU detained two teenagers in Lviv in the fall, who had planned to blow up a soldier's car under the guidance of Russian supervisors by placing homemade explosives underneath the vehicle and installing a camera for an online stream of the explosion.
This incident highlights the activity of Russian intelligence in carrying out terrorist attacks on the territory of Ukraine and the effectiveness of Ukrainian law enforcement agencies that were able to prevent a tragedy. Similar incidents underscore the importance of a quality response and cooperation among various intelligence units in the fight against terrorism and threats to national security.
