Experience of the Language Commissioner

According to inkorr.com: Olena Ivanovska, the new language commissioner, shared her experience of teaching her daughter to use the Ukrainian language on social media in an interview with 'Gromadske'. She also spoke about family tragedies related to repression and dispossession, which helped her daughter realize the importance of her native language.

I told my daughter about the tragedies of the dispossession of her great-great-grandfather's family, about her grandfather's imprisonment for a handful of grain, about how for centuries the Ukrainian intelligentsia was destroyed. She perceived this not as a dry fact from a textbook, but as a personal family tragedy.

The Issue of Teen Language Behavior

Ivanovska also raised the issue of language behavior among teenagers, especially in Kyiv, where the Russian language is gaining popularity. This issue is personally close to her, as she is the mother of a schoolgirl.

The Value of the Ukrainian Language

In another part of the interview, she talked about her experience of instilling respect for the Ukrainian language in her daughter. Ivanovska emphasized how important it is to convey the values of the language through family stories and personal examples. According to her, language is a bridge between generations that needs special attention.

The Ukrainian language remains important and relevant in today's world. Raising awareness of it among young people is crucial, as this is how national identity and cultural heritage are formed.
