DSNS has revealed survival rules during a blackout: How not to freeze.
According to ТСН: The lack of electricity often leads to cold apartments. To avoid getting cold during long power outages, rescuers advise taking comprehensive measures: from insulating clothing to insulating the room.
Effective and safe tips have been published by the press service of the DSNS on their Telegram channel.
One Room Rule
Do not try to heat the entire apartment. Choose one room and seal windows, doors, and curtains tightly. This creates the effect of a “thermos” and keeps the heat from escaping outside.
Note: If possible, gather the whole family in one room. Breathing and body heat will help increase the air temperature.
Create a 'Warm Corner'
Drafts are your biggest enemy. Seal the cracks in the windows and place rolled blankets or a carpet under the door to prevent cold air from entering the corridor.
Involve the kids in this process – it will make them feel important and less stressed about the darkness.
Dress like a 'Cabbage'
Proper clothing keeps you warmer than a blanket. Dress yourself and the kids in several thin layers instead of a thick sweater. The air between clothing layers acts as an insulator for warmth.
Don’t forget:
Warm socks (your feet freeze first).
A scarf.
A hat (even at home, because a lot of heat is lost through the head).
Homemade Safety Hot Water Bottle
If the radiators are cold, you can make a homemade hot water bottle. Fill a plastic bottle with warm water, be sure to wrap it in a towel and keep it close to you.
Warning! Do not use metal containers or boiling water for this – it can cause severe burns.
Deadly Danger from Generators
If you use a generator, remember the most important rule: never turn it on indoors!
Fumes have no color, odor, or taste, but they can kill very quickly. The generator must be at least 6 meters away from windows and doors.
We remind you that an 'extreme trainer' has also given tips on how to survive during a blackout. He explained what to do when electricity, heating, water, and even sewage are turned off.
