Day of the Ground Forces of Ukraine on December 12: history and traditions of the holiday.
According to ТСН: December 12 is the 1387th day of the war in Ukraine.
What holiday is today
Today, December 12, the church calendar marks the Day of the Memory of Saint Spyridon Trimythus. Saint Spyridon, the bishop of the Cypriot city in the 4th century, became famous for his sincere faith, mercy, and numerous miracles: he helped the poor, healed the sick, and calmed the elements through prayer. He also participated in the First Ecumenical Council, defending the Christian doctrine.
On this day, Ukraine celebrates the Day of the Ground Forces of Ukraine. The Ground Forces have a rich historical heritage, but as a separate structural unit, they began to form after gaining independence in 1991. This day was established by the Decree of the President of Ukraine to honor the courage, heroism, and professionalism of military personnel.
Also, December 12 is the International Day for the Verification of Sound. This holiday was created to remind of the importance of acoustics, music, technology, and the comfortable perception of sound in everyday life. It is popular among musicians, sound engineers, audio engineers, and anyone who appreciates quality sound.
We have not forgotten about the Day of Retail Workers. The main goal of this holiday is to pay tribute to those who provide consumers with goods and services, create comfort in stores and supermarkets, and contribute to the development of the country’s economy.
December 12 is also celebrated as the International Day of Neutrality. This holiday reminds us of the importance of maintaining independence and objectivity in conflict resolution. Neutrality applies to both individual states and organizations that strive to be mediators in conflicts and to support peace.
Another important day is the World Day for Universal Health Coverage. This day aims to draw public and governmental attention to the necessity of ensuring that all people in the world have access to quality medical care. The main goal is to remind that health is a fundamental human right, and every country should strive to provide medical services without financial burden.
Today's holidays emphasize the importance of various aspects of life in society — from interaction and support to healthcare. In the context of war and the challenges facing Ukraine, such dates help not only to honor traditions but also to unite the nation around common values.
This day reminds us of the significance of solidarity among people and the importance of each of us in supporting one another in difficult times.
