What church holiday is tomorrow according to the new calendar
On December 7, believers celebrate the memorial day of Saint Ambrose, Bishop of Milan. Ambrose, originally from Rome, received education in law, rhetoric, and classical literature. His career developed rapidly: he became a praetor in Northern Italy and managed the administrative affairs of Milan (modern Milan).
During the conflict between the Arians and the Orthodox, the people of Milan elected Ambrose as bishop, even though at the time he had not yet been baptized.
At first, he refused, but eventually accepted baptism, and a week later – episcopal consecration (374 AD). This marked a new stage in his life: he gave away his possessions to the poor and focused on studying the Scriptures and pastoral activities.
Ambrose actively opposed Arianism, which at that time undermined the divinity of Christ. His sermons became the foundation of Latin patristics. He was one of the first to assert the priority of spiritual authority in matters of faith and morality. His conflict with Emperor Theodosius I became significant: after the massacre in Thessalonica, Ambrose refused him Communion until the emperor publicly asked for forgiveness.
The saint passed away on the night of April 4, 397 AD.
