Job competition has doubled: which professions will be needed tomorrow

According to ТСН: There is an increase in competition among candidates in the job market, which significantly complicates the job search. In the United States, the number of people applying for a single job has doubled compared to spring 2022. This situation is complicated not only by high competition but also by a lack of necessary skills among job seekers.

Challenges in job searching

According to a survey conducted by LinkedIn, nearly two-thirds of respondents indicated that the main obstacle in job searching is competition in the labor market. The second place is taken by uncertainty about their fit for the position, and the third is skill gaps.

Recruiters note a decrease in the number of vacancies and growing requirements for candidates.

  • 66% of recruiters noted that it has become harder to find qualified specialists over the past year.

  • Meanwhile, they are expected to close vacancies faster and find competitive candidates who are not always noticeable at first glance.

An important role in the hiring process is played by artificial intelligence. According to research, two-thirds of recruiters intend to increase their use of AI for pre-selecting candidates for interviews by 2026.

Among job seekers, 81% are already using AI tools, and nearly half of them claim that these technologies enhance their confidence during interviews.

Promising professions by 2026

According to a forecast by the World Economic Forum, demand for the following professions will increase by 2026:

  • Data specialists (Big Data) who analyze large volumes of data.

  • AI and Machine Learning specialists — developers and implementers of artificial intelligence systems.

  • FinTech engineers — experts in financial technologies.

  • Software and application developers.

  • Information and cybersecurity analysts — demand for whom is increasing due to rising cyber threats.

  • Environmental and energy engineers — specialists related to the 'green' transformation.

In the U.S., according to LinkedIn data, by 2026, the five fastest-growing professions will include: AI engineers, AI strategy consultants, new construction sales specialists, data annotators, and AI and machine learning researchers.

The situation in Ukraine

The job market in Ukraine is also undergoing significant changes in the coming years. Demand for staff will be shaped by digitalization, the country's recovery after the war, and the transition to 'green' technologies. Experts advise considering promising specialties now for both young people and those looking to change professions.

Forecasts indicate that specialists in the fields of technology, engineering, medicine, and logistics will be most valued in Ukraine. These areas will become key to the economic recovery and development of the country.

It is worth noting that employers are lacking specialists in working and teaching professions the most. Currently, the largest number of vacancies is recorded for electricians, teaching assistants, plumbers, and repair technicians. There is also high demand for waiters, turners, and operators of computer-controlled machines.

In short, today's realities in the job market require not only adaptation to new conditions but also constant self-development. As analyses show, specialists with modern skills are in greater demand than ever, affecting both traditional and new professions. Special attention should be paid to technological and environmental directions, which will shape the face of the future job market.
