According to ТСН: The New Year's celebration in the elite Swiss village of Crans-Montana ended tragically — a fire in a bar claimed the lives of about 40 people. Investigators are already working on identifying the charred bodies, trying to establish the names of all the victims.

Information about the deceased and injured

The burns suffered mainly by young visitors of the Le Constellation bar are so severe that it may take several days to identify the bodies.

'The top priority is to identify all the bodies,'
said Crans-Montana mayor Nicolas Fero at a press conference. Parents of missing young individuals are seeking information about their loved ones, while foreign embassies are trying to determine whether their citizens are among the victims.

Identification methods

Matthias Reynar, head of the Valais canton government, reported that specialists are using dental samples and DNA for identification.

'All this work must be done, the information is so horrific and delicate that nothing can be communicated to families until we are 100 percent sure,'
he explained.

Circumstances of the fire

The cause of the fire remains unknown. Swiss authorities are confident that it was not a terrorist attack. Testimonies from survivors and videos from social media indicate that the bar's ceiling may have caught fire due to sparklers.

Community reaction

Residents of Crans-Montana, known not only as a popular spot for skiers but also for golfers, were shocked by this tragedy. Many knew the victims, and some noted that they were lucky to have avoided this situation. Dozens of people left flowers or lit candles at an improvised altar in Crans-Montana.

The fire occurred at a ski resort during the New Year's celebration. The Italian Foreign Ministry confirmed that it received information about 40 dead from the Swiss police, which later also published this information. A total of 115 people were injured, many of whom sustained serious injuries.

This tragedy has shocked not only the local community but tourists from around the world. Crans-Montana was certainly considered one of the most attractive vacation spots in the Alps, but now this small town has found itself in the center of sad events. The investigation continues, and we hope that the families of the deceased will receive the necessary information as soon as possible.
