President of the United States Joe Biden stated that a decision regarding permission for Ukraine to use Western rocket systems against Russia will not be made until his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the end of the month, reports The Telegraph.

According to the publication, Ukraine and some of its allies, particularly the United Kingdom, are urging the U.S. President to grant permission to use these weapons to strike Russian air bases and other critical military targets. The meeting between Zelensky and Biden is scheduled for the end of September in New York during the UN General Assembly session.

"The U.S. is concerned that granting Ukraine permission to strike Russia with Western rockets could lead to an escalation of the conflict... Storm Shadow missiles are attributed with a turning point in the war, as they allow Kyiv to hit Russian command centers and supply depots deep behind the front lines in occupied Ukraine," the article states.

The UK Ministry of Defence confirmed attempts by Russian forces to reclaim Ukrainian territory in the Kursk region.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky plans to meet with his American counterpart Joe Biden this month. The discussion between the heads of state will focus on the issue of permission to use American long-range missiles against Russia.

Previously Zelensky stated that he would bring Biden a "victory package". He emphasized that he would present a system of interconnected decisions that would enable Ukraine to gain sufficient strength to ensure peace.
