The Story of Oleksandr

According to TSN.ua: A father of eight children from the Dnipropetrovsk region, Oleksandr, suffered severe injuries while carrying out combat duties on the front line, where he had been deployed for a month without rotation. Following this harrowing ordeal, he has undergone four surgeries and now requires a lengthy period of rehabilitation.

Ordeal on the Front Line

A month in hell and a drone attack. Oleksandr was stationed in positions near Pokrovsk when his life changed in an instant.

'Honestly, when I was wounded, I didn't feel that my leg was broken. I felt my arm dangling. I didn't even pay attention to it. I had to keep moving forward; I had to reach my own men,' Oleksandr recalls of that horrific moment.

A medical miracle: 4 surgeries and liters of blood. After sustaining his injuries, Oleksandr endured four operations, during which he was transfused with over two liters of blood. This was necessary to save his life and begin recovery from the grave wounds.

Eight children and a household: 'They simply took me away.' Oleksandr has eight children: three daughters and five sons. His youngest son, Valentyn, is just two and a half years old. His wife, left alone with the children, struggles to manage all the responsibilities.

'One medical certificate on that specific day wasn't enough to keep me from going to war. They simply took me away, and that was it. Now my wife is on her own: she cooks for eight, milks the cows, and still finds time to go to the market. My wife is a force of nature!' Oleksandr shares, highlighting his wife's heroism under the circumstances.

Oleksandr continues to dream of a peaceful life at home with his family, which has become his primary goal after the horrors of war he has endured. He faces a long road to recovery ahead but hopes to return to his loved ones and resume a normal life.

This account is one of many from a conflict where civilian-soldiers with deep family ties have been mobilized to defend their country. Oleksandr's story illustrates the profound difficulties faced by Ukrainian servicemen and their families during the war. The challenges of having a large family and the lack of support during combat underscore the severe hardship many families now endure. Recovery from his injuries, both physical and psychological, will be not only a personal challenge for Oleksandr but also a crucial step for his family, who desperately need his presence and support.
