Ukraine’s Borscht Basket Gets Cheaper: How Much Prices for Cabbage, Potatoes, and Carrots Have Dropped.
Vegetable Prices Fall Across Ukraine
According to TSN.ua: Due to an oversupply, prices for key borscht ingredients are declining in Ukraine, even as greenhouse-grown cucumbers and tomatoes become more expensive. Specifically, white cabbage now costs between 8 and 10 UAH per kilogram, down from 8–11 UAH. Potatoes have dropped from 12–14 UAH to a range of 10–12 UAH per kg. Carrots are also more affordable, falling from 10–14 UAH to 10–12 UAH per kg. Table beets now sell for 9–11 UAH per kilogram, compared to the previous 10–12 UAH range. Napa cabbage has also seen a price reduction, moving from 25–30 UAH to 23–27 UAH per kg.
Greenhouse Vegetables and Fruits See Price Hikes
Meanwhile, some produce is becoming pricier. Greenhouse cucumbers have surged from 100–180 UAH to 150–220 UAH per kilogram. Similarly, greenhouse tomatoes increased from 110–125 UAH to 140–155 UAH per kg. Broccoli prices rose from 125–135 UAH to 130–140 UAH per kilogram, and garlic went up from 100–120 UAH to 115–130 UAH per kg.
Fruits are also experiencing cost increases. Bananas now range from 70–75 UAH per kilogram, up from 65–75 UAH. Persimmons have jumped from 50–70 UAH to 85–90 UAH per kg. In contrast, garden strawberries have dropped significantly, from 380–420 UAH to 180–250 UAH per kilogram.
Overall, Ukraine’s fruit and vegetable market shows mixed trends: lower prices for popular borscht vegetables coexist with rising costs for greenhouse produce and certain fruits.
These market shifts highlight fluctuations in supply and demand across different product categories. The drop in borscht basket prices likely stems from seasonal oversupply, while the increase in greenhouse vegetables and some fruits may reflect higher production costs and sustained demand.
Such developments could impact household spending and the broader economic landscape in the country.
