Russian propaganda about the front collapse: what is really happening in ISW.
According to ТСН: In Russia, false information about the inevitable fall of the front line in Ukraine is actively spreading. This may indicate an attempt to change the situation on the battlefield to their advantage, although such success is unattainable.
Why Putin lies
According to a milblogger connected to the Kremlin, Russian state media began actively promoting false claims after Putin's press conference on November 27, including:
- The front line in Ukraine is collapsing due to massive desertions of Ukrainian troops;
- Russian troops will soon advance on Kyiv;
- The RF army has already defeated the Armed Forces of Ukraine, only left to 'finish them off'.
These statements come along with the fabrication of territorial successes, attempts to support Putin's words, and the use of artificial intelligence to create fake videos about the capitulation of Ukrainian troops and attacks on social media.
"Russian state media are also trying to bolster the Kremlin's efforts to create the impression that Russian troops will inevitably destroy sectors of the front line in Ukraine..."
In fact, according to the milblogger:
- The front line is not collapsing;
- Russia is far from victory;
- The RF troops are spending significant resources;
- Both sides are engaged in positional warfare;
- The Armed Forces of Ukraine are conducting counterattacks.
This data is confirmed by available evidence from open sources.
The milblogger also noted that Ukrainian troops continue to fight in the Kharkiv region, in particular, trying to counterattack in eastern Vovchansk and resisting Russian attacks in the directions of Kup'yansk and Borova. These facts contradict Putin's statements about the seizure of territories and the inability of Ukrainian troops to defend near the Oskil River.
He also dispels Putin's claims of encircling Ukrainian troops, emphasizing that Ukrainians sometimes withdraw their forces to strengthen other parts of the front. This is a tactic used by both sides on the battlefield.
"ISW continues to assess that while the situation in some areas is serious, Putin's statements and Russian media are exaggerated..."
The Institute noted that the distortion of information by the Kremlin was so significant that a well-known Russian blogger was forced to publish a denial.
Earlier, the commander of the Airborne Assault Troops Oleg Apostol emphasized the importance of patience for Ukrainians in the struggle against the enemy: 'We need to grit our teeth and really grind them (the Russians - ed.) down...'
Now, more than ever, it is important to remain calm and not succumb to panic in the conditions of military aggression. Ukrainian forces continue to act actively on the front, demonstrating readiness to fight for their territory. At the same time, the dissemination of disinformation by Russia only underscores their hopelessness in the military conflict.
