Ukraine's Ombudsman Reports Mobilization Abuses in Two Regions

According to Novyny.live: On July 1, Dmytro Lubinets revealed serious violations of citizens' rights during the mobilization process in Zakarpattia and Mykolaiv regions. Inspections uncovered 28 individuals whose freedom of movement was restricted without any legal justification. In one case, a person was held for 50 days.

Lubinets noted that three employees of the Zakarpattia Regional Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support (TCC and SP) have already been notified of suspicion. He also emphasized that violations were recorded in the Mykolaiv region. One detainee at the Mykolaiv TCC was held for 18 days, despite being an active-duty serviceman.

“We saw 28 people whose right to free movement was restricted without any legal basis,”

He added, 'In Zakarpattia, the most shameful case involved a demobilized soldier who had fought at Bakhmut and carried a veteran's ID.'

During the inspections, it was found that one detainee was already serving in the military. 'When we began reviewing the documents, it turned out the person was already an active-duty serviceman,' Lubinets commented. These cases highlight serious flaws in the mobilization system and the urgent need for reforms to protect citizens' rights.

The situation underscores the importance of upholding human rights during mobilization efforts. The identified abuses may trigger public outcry and necessitate a review of mobilization laws to prevent future incidents. In wartime, when mobilization is essential, ensuring fairness and transparency in the process is critical.
