The USA and Ukraine Have Approached Peace Negotiations: What Is Known About the Plan

According to ТСН: The United Kingdom has expressed support for the progress in negotiations between the USA and Ukraine regarding possible ways to end the war with Russia. At the same time, the country emphasized that Ukrainians have the right to determine their own future.

This was stated by the UK's permanent representative to the OSCE, Neil Holland, during a Permanent Council meeting in Austria.

“The position of the United Kingdom is clear. We believe that the future of Ukraine must be determined by the Ukrainians themselves. For any agreement to ensure a just and lasting peace, it must protect Ukraine's sovereignty and security; affirm the principle that borders cannot be changed by force; and guarantee reliable security mechanisms to prevent future Russian aggression,” the diplomat emphasized.

Holland noted that London positively assesses the joint statement from the USA and Ukraine, which was drafted following constructive negotiations in Geneva aimed at ending the conflict initiated by Russia.

He emphasized that Ukraine continues to demonstrate its willingness for peace and unconditional ceasefire, while Russia has not refrained from terrorist attacks even during negotiations.

“When the last round of negotiations took place, Russia was bombarding Ukrainian cities with drones and missiles… Russia knows that its position is absurd: to claim serious intentions for peace while maintaining maximalist demands and trying to force Ukrainian civilians to surrender through bombings,” the representative stated.

Holland also confirmed that the United Kingdom will continue to actively support Ukraine by supplying necessary weapons and increasing economic pressure on the Kremlin.

“The United Kingdom will continue to support Ukraine and help provide it with the necessary military equipment to defend against Russian aggression, while simultaneously maintaining economic pressure on Putin,” he summarized.

It should be noted that a constructive round of negotiations regarding the American 'peace plan' is possible no earlier than mid-January.

Previously, it was reported that Trump's peace initiatives faced tough demands from the Kremlin and Ukraine's steadfastness, while European allies warned of the risks of US strategies.

Thus, the position of the United Kingdom underscores the importance of supporting Ukraine in difficult conditions, and also advocates for the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity. Continuing negotiations between the USA, Ukraine, and Russia remains a relevant issue, in which European partners will play an important role. It is expected that the further stages of these negotiations may change the course of the conflict and contribute to stabilizing the situation in the region.
