Attack on the Burshtyn Thermal Power Station

According to TSN.ua: Following a Russian drone and missile assault on the city on February 7, the Burshtyn Thermal Power Station (TPP) was forced to shut down. In response, the city's commission for technological, environmental safety, and emergencies convened to address the urgent restoration of heating and water supply for the region. This incident is part of a wider pattern of attacks on Ukraine's critical energy infrastructure.

Burshtyn Mayor Vasyl Andriieshyn announced that heat supply is expected to be restored within 48 hours. He described the situation at the plant as extremely complex but stated that, according to emergency protocols, the city should receive heat within that timeframe. Vasyl Andriieshyn clarified that heat could be supplied either from the Burshtyn TPP's combined heat and power unit or from a local boiler house.

Backup Generators May Be Required

If necessary, backup generators will be connected to ensure power supply. However, the mayor noted this is not a simple process and will require additional time. The Burshtyn TPP provides electricity for 3 million users across three western Ukrainian oblasts, making its restoration critically important for the population.

The strike on the Burshtyn TPP underscores the persistent risks faced by Ukraine's energy facilities during the ongoing war.

Restoring the thermal power plant's operations is vital not only for local residents but also for regional energy stability. The situation with Ukraine's energy grid remains tense, and events like this highlight the crucial need for securing reliable power sources in a conflict zone.
