Authorities recorded nine separate poisoning incidents in less than 48 hours. The tragedies occurred across the following regions:

  • Vinnytsia
  • Ternopil
  • Kyiv
  • Poltava
  • Ivano-Frankivsk
  • Kirovohrad
  • Mykolaiv
  • Odesa

The primary causes of these incidents were:

The most severe case took place on February 8 in the village of Zhukivtsi, Kyiv region.

In response, the SESU urges the public to understand the main causes of carbon monoxide poisoning and to adopt preventative safety measures. Following basic safety rules can help avert similar tragedies.

This wave of poisonings underscores the vital need for public awareness regarding the safe operation of heating and power-generating equipment, especially in cold weather. A lack of proper maintenance and disregard for elementary safety protocols can lead to deadly consequences, as recently witnessed. The SESU continues to stress the necessity of public information campaigns to raise awareness about the dangers of carbon monoxide.
