Red Cross once again did not come to meet with families of prisoners of war – Lubinets.
A meeting with relatives of prisoners of war took place in the Odesa region
Today, September 23, a meeting was held in the Odesa region with the relatives of defenders who are in enemy captivity or missing. However, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, stated that representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) once again did not come to the event.
«I note that the ICRC representatives once again did not come to meet with the families of prisoners of war. In response to our official invitation, they replied that they «kindly» and «with understanding» ask for understanding and that their regional office in the Odesa region is operating», – the statement reads.
According to Lubinets, the relatives of the military had specific questions for the ICRC representatives. In particular, regarding the visit to Ukrainian prisoners of war in Russia.
We recall that on September 14, Ukraine managed to return 103 Ukrainian soldiers from Russian captivity.
Earlier, Russian invaders likely executed an unarmed Ukrainian prisoner of war with hands tied with tape. Lubinets reminded that such actions by the Russians are a gross violation of the Geneva Convention on the treatment of prisoners of war.
Notably, more than 900 «Azov» soldiers are in captivity in the Russian Federation.
