Popular fruits can harm the liver: what to limit.
According to ТСН: Some popular fruits can negatively impact liver health, especially when consumed in excess.
Mango
Mango is famous for its sweet taste and tropical aroma, making it one of the most beloved fruits. However, according to a study published by the National Library of Medicine in the USA, mango contains a high level of sugar, particularly fructose, which makes up about 15% of its pulp. Fructose is processed by the liver into fat, and excessive consumption can lead to fatty liver disease, resulting in fat accumulation in the organ's cells and increasing the risk of damage.
Experts recommend limiting mango consumption, especially for people with liver issues or diabetes. It is advisable to consult a doctor.
Durian
Durian, known as the 'king of fruits', impresses with its rich taste and creamy texture. Although this fruit contains beneficial vitamins and minerals, it is also high in calories and saturated fats, which can affect liver health.
The American Liver Foundation advises people with fatty liver disease to avoid products high in sugar, fat, and calories, as they can worsen the condition of the organ.
A study by the World Health Organization indicates that the consumption of saturated fats increases the risk of insulin resistance and fatty liver disease. For people with fatty liver disease, excessive consumption of durian may complicate the fat processing by the liver, leading to inflammation and further fat accumulation.
Longan
Longans have a high concentration of fructose, glucose, and sucrose, and excessive consumption can place a significant burden on the liver. A study published in Food Frontiers showed that overconsumption of longan can lead to dysbiosis, inflammation, and impaired liver function.
Hawthorn
Hawthorn is often used to make jams, syrups, or eaten raw, as it aids digestion due to its high content of organic acids, such as citric acid. While it is beneficial for digestion, excessive consumption can cause gastrointestinal disorders, nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.
Healthy individuals are advised to limit hawthorn consumption to about 100-150 grams per serving to maintain optimal liver health.
Research shows that excessive consumption of certain fruits can seriously affect liver function. It is essential to remember the importance of moderation in diet, especially for people with pre-existing liver conditions. Your health should always come first, so consult a doctor if you have any doubts about your diet.
