According to ТСН: Statements by US President Donald Trump that President Volodymyr Zelensky allegedly has "no cards" sparked active discussion in society. However, it would be a mistake to interpret them exclusively negatively.

According to Ukrainian diplomat and politician Roman Bezsmertnyi, Trump means that the only and most important "card" in Kyiv's hands is the US president.

Why Zelensky's "card" is Trump

Bezsmertnyi emphasizes that Trump's rhetoric may seem straightforward, but in fact, it is strategic. When the American leader talks about the absence of cards, he emphasizes how much the situation depends on Washington's decisions.

He drew a parallel with events in Venezuela and the US response to threats from Russia. Bezsmertnyi recalled the words of Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who during a briefing after the change of power in Venezuela noted that:

"We expect only statements of concern from Russia."

He also added:

"Russia is deeply mired in Ukraine."

This indicates that in Washington, they realize: Ukrainian resistance restrains Putin, preventing him from interfering in other conflicts.

Bezsmertnyi is convinced that Trump understands the importance of cooperation with Ukraine. Without Ukrainian resistance, the implementation of US strategic plans in other regions of the world would be much more difficult.

"This is the merit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which hold back the entire Russian army. This allows Trump to operate freely, including in Venezuela, and, if he wishes, in Iran,"
