Ukraine's Air Defense at Risk as Patriot Missile Shortage Worsens Amid Iran-Israel Conflict.
Ukraine's Defense Capability Under Threat
According to TSN.ua: Analyst Kostiantyn Kryvolap warns that Ukraine's air defense capabilities face a severe threat due to a shortage of interceptor missiles, a situation exacerbated by the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel. Kryvolap states that if Iranian attacks continue for another two weeks, the arsenals of missiles for Patriot systems could be depleted, significantly complicating the defense of Ukrainian airspace. This comes at a critical time, as Ukraine relies heavily on these systems to counter daily Russian missile and drone barrages.
Kryvolap noted that SAMP/T New Generation systems have not yet lived up to expectations, and the production rate for new systems is only 10 missiles per month. In this context, he emphasized that the Patriot PAC-3 MSE version is the only reliable means of countering Russian missiles, and a shortage of these could jeopardize national security.
Russian Military Actions and the Need for Urgent Solutions
Furthermore, Kryvolap stressed that Russian occupation forces are preparing to intensify combat operations in early spring, which demands urgent decisions to strengthen the country's defense. He also observed that assault operations on the Kostiantynivka axis have significantly decreased due to the loss of access to Starlink satellite communications.
Amid this shortage of anti-ballistic weaponry, Kryvolap remarked:
“We may soon find ourselves without any anti-ballistic weapons.”
The expert believes that preemptively destroying launch platforms is a matter of survival for the national defense system. In light of the global shortage and competition for missiles, the issue of European production is becoming increasingly urgent. According to Kryvolap, the only solution lies in conducting strikes on the territory of the Russian Federation to ensure Ukraine's security. Thus, the situation necessitates immediate action to maintain defense capabilities and protect the country.
The missile shortage for Ukraine, set against the backdrop of the Iran-Israel conflict, highlights the complexity of ensuring national security during overlapping global crises. Given the preparation of Russian troops for intensified hostilities, Ukraine must urgently take measures to bolster its defenses. Considering the limited production capacity of new air defense systems, strategic decisions regarding preemptive actions are becoming ever more critical for protecting the country's territory.
