According to TSN.ua: Ukraine is confronting a severe demographic crisis, exacerbated by the ongoing full-scale war, which has caused a sharp decline in birth rates and significant population loss. Since the war began, the country has lost approximately 10 million people, profoundly impacting its reproductive outlook. Recent figures show Ukraine's fertility rate has now fallen below one child per woman, a critically low level compared to the European average of 1.4 and the U.S. average of 1.6. Many women are postponing plans to have children due to the conflict, a delay that medical experts warn can further compromise their reproductive health.

Since the invasion began in 2022, around 6 million people have fled Ukraine and registered as refugees abroad. Demographer Ella Libanova has noted that the longer the war continues, the less likely it is that these refugees will return. This exodus threatens the nation's demographic stability, as no country can sustain itself without people.

Worsening Reproductive Health

Medical professionals are deeply concerned by the falling birth rate. Soldier Olena Bilozerska feels a moral duty to advise women serving in the military to consider their future motherhood:

Valeriy Zukin stated that “we are seeing more complications, more anomalies, and more difficulties carrying pregnancies to term.” This is attributed not only to pervasive stress but also to the overall deterioration of women's health in wartime conditions.

Alla Baranenko also emphasized that “the quality of eggs has deteriorated, and their quantity is decreasing.” This confirms the grave concerns of medical specialists regarding the state of women's reproductive health in Ukraine.
